People Ask Me What I Write
Simple question, and you’d think there’d be a simple answer.
For me, the process of writing is a journey to somewhere different. My books are the messages I send back.
Check out my latest story — Cold Comfort
If you crack the ice on the right Arctic lake and toss in a match, you can set off a methane flare.
That’s not fiction. It’s true. (If you doubt me, watch this video of Katey Anthony, a University of Alaska professor, demonstrating the technique.)
That’s what inspired Cold Comfort, a story about the melting of the permafrost, written in collaboration with physicist Paul Doherty and published in Bridging Infinity, an anthology edited by Jonathan Strahan. The story will also appear in Gardner Dozois’ upcoming BEST SF 34.
